Christian Dior Couture Apres Galliano 2011

Christian Dior Couture Apres Galliano
2011

The fate of Christian Dior in the post John Galliano remains largely unknown, but yesterday afternoon the fashion world got a glimpse of what’s in store for the house in the absence of a creative director.  As soon as the Christian Dior Fall 2011 Haute Couture collection hit the Paris runway, critics, editors, and obsessive style bloggers were aghast.
Studio director Bill Gaytten, who was recently named Galliano’s successor at his eponymous label, oversaw the direction and many had him pegged to helm Dior. That was until they saw the scattered aesthetic that ensued. Inspired by a variety of architectural and artistic influences, the show felt more circus than couture. The show was not without its stunning standouts. The Dior Couture brides were as beautiful as ever and Karlie Kloss, who closed the show as a Pierrot, made for a solid last impression. But that’s not enough to keep the crowd happy.
“Once so full of enchantment, Dior’s Galliano era is over,” proclaimed Women’s Wear Daily. “It’s time to commence anew.” After panning the collection, Style.com’s Tim Blanks asked “so what happens next?” We’re wondering the same thing.
And so for now, the fashion world awaits its next visionary.
